Installation hangs on 'acpi0: (...)'

Post by Afstkla »

I have recently found myself an old, broken laptop, which I fixed and now I am trying to install NAS4Free on it, but I am encountering some problems.
The laptop I am using is a Packard Bell EasyNote R3400

I have tried both FreeNAS 8 and NAS4Free LiveCD's on both a CD, DVD disk and a USB device, but every time I run the installation, it gets stuck at

Code: Select all

acpi0: <INSYDE FACP_000> on motherboard
I have already waited for a few hours max, but still no luck.

I always get past the first 'menu', but a few seconds after I choose whatever option on the 'menu', the installation gets stuck.

Is there a way around this, so I can use this awesome piece of software?

Thanks in advance

Added is all the information I get from choosing the menu option to the installation getting stuck (I choose option 2, boot with ACPI enabled):

Code: Select all

Hello,

start with ACPI DISABLED, furthermore play with your BIOS settings for energy savings, disable all settings and enable step by step.

BTW: Your system seems to be equipped with a 32bit processor, did you download by mistake the 64bit version?

Thanks, I've changed some of the power saving settings in the BIOS and turned the settings I'm not using off, and the boot process completes now!

But, after the booting completes, and I get the "Console setup" menu, I can't connect to my network.
The interfaces I can choose are:
fwe0 (FireWire Ethernet emulation)
fwip0 (IP over Firewire)
ral0 (Ralink Technology IEEE 802.11 wireless adapter)

The first thing I notice is that my Ethernet Card isn't listed. Is there a possibility to add my Ethernet Card to the list, so that I can just insert my Ethernet cable and everything will work?

If that isn't an option, this are the steps I took to try to configure the network with the options I had...

I don't have any FireWire Ethernet cables so the first two options will not work for me, so I selected the 3rd option (ral0)

I get presented with 'Configure OPT interface', since I don't know what it means, I entered 'none'.

Afterwards, I return to the 'Configure Network IP Address'.

I click 'Yes' on 'use DCHP?', 'No' on 'use IPv6' and operating mode '11g 802.11g'.

The next few steps are confusing for me. Do I have to insert the SSID of my own network, or does it want me to create a new network? Either way, after going through the steps, I end up with:
"The LAN IP address has been set to:
Error: Don't get IPv4 address!"

Thanks a lot for the help so far!

step 1 is used to set the network device
with a laptop it is likely an on board Nic
which must also be turned on in the bios
and be compatible with NAS4Free.
if they are compatible they show up in the list.

the network device must be operating
for the fixed or dynamic IP address
to be called for or returned [step 2]

early laptops with an unusual, external or slide in Nic may be a compatibility problem
the skipped [none] step for the wifi is likely the mode and password stuff
but I do not use wifi so I do not know for sure
