Hi guys, i see some threats regarding the upgrade procedures.
I have quite some data on my nas4free and also i have a software mirror running.
The last few years i have not had any serious problems with the upgrade procedures so
First of all Compliments to the dev team !!
What is the best of most practical way to upgrade?
I made my backup of the config so as usual that step has taken care off.

in a safe way ... i don't want to lose my data nor my mirror disks...

Install the new image to a different boot device and upload the old config to it. That way your old boot device is still around for a fall back.

ok thanks. There is no risk the data will be converted in a way i am not able to access it anymore?

No one will say there is "no risk" and we will all tell you that backups should be taken. However, I have mounted data disks with a fresh USB from old nas4free versions many times before, and from a few freenas versions, and never had a problem.
