l2tp/ipsec

Post by russian »

Hi.

Now my NAS is my favorite toy, so I have a lot of questions and idea :)

One of them is configure l2tp/ipsec vpn, for connecting to my home LAN and home NAS from outside.

I've done PPTP VPN (it was a challenge for such a newbie like me :), and if somebody is interested - I could try to make a small report about it (there are some difficulties: it needs to add some kernel modules from BSD ISO, and modify loader.conf and so on).

But, as it was said here, PPTP is not secure enough.

But, as I know (don't forget I'm a newbiest newbie!!), I can't add IPSEC easy to freeNAS, because to add these kernel options, I need to reconfigure kernel and make some other UNIX guru magic?

If somebody could give me some hint about this, I would be really happy!

That would really make a nice addition (main usage I can think of it media streaming from phone while away).

I seems the MPD5 port would be a suitable candidate for the task. http://www.freshports.org/net/mpd5/

There even is a guide in the latest BSD Magazine
