NAS4Free Upgrade to 9.3.0.2.1310 is NOT possible!!!
=============================================
Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from all past versions by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config to a safe place and backup all files from second
partition if you use boot disk as data disk.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config.
Sorry for inconvenience.

Re: Boot partition is too small version 1310
You only need to install N4F and restore config.
Your jails are magically restored if you install jails on data drive and not in OS drive.

Re: Boot partition is too small version 1310
I had the same problem while installing the embedded image by using Win32DiskImager. It is making 512MB image in a 2GB sd card. Everything works fine but the warning message saying "boot partion is too small" was there. So I reinstalled from liveCD. It makes now 800MB of image, 512MB SWAP, and the rest DATA which I never use !.
After I reimpoted my disks and restored to get back my config and jails. Works fine now.

Re: Boot partition is too small version 1310
Here is my issue.
Running NAS4Free for a while now. Just upgraded from 1283 to 1310.
Taking the warnings to heart - I did not use the Web GUI firmware upgrade path.
I first backed up the current configuration using system-firmware-backup, powered down the machine, removed USB stick from motherboard, downloaded NAS4Free-x64-embedded-9.3.0.2.1310.img.xz file. Using 7Zip - extracted to .img file. Using Win32DiskImager - wrote image to USB stick (over writing 1283 version).
Replaced USB stick on motherboard - powered on system.
Initially - tried to restore config - and received message about file being incompatible file type. Did some reading on forum - and went to Disks - Management and clicked "Clear config and Import disks". Disks imported ok - then went to Disks - ZFS and detected and synchronized to get ZFS pool and mount points to display.
Went back to restore config - same message (incompatible file type). Restored an older config (from October) - system restored and rebooted. Upon reboot - tried restoring backup from tonight - and then it worked just fine - weird.
I can access shares just fine - and all configs seem to be intact.
However, under System - Firmware - I still get the message - "Boot partition is too small. You need reinstall from LiveCD or LiveUSB, or resize boot partition of da0s1a. ".
What do I need to do to burn the img file so the partition sizes are correct?
Thanks in advance,
George

Re: Boot partition is too small version 1310
As I explained before, using win32diskimager makes only 512MB of image partion on usb stick, for that reason, it is better to install embedded from livecd menu.It comes to about 800MB embedded image partion, which is tolerated by the NAS .
Save actual configuration, if no other incident on actual installation, and reinstall from livecd.
For your information, you can see your partition information from webgui Diagnostics/Informations/Partitions

Re: Boot partition is too small version 1310
I am using Physdiskwrite and get the same error. Is this a setting within the image file that screws it up? I don't have another big enough USB drive and my server doesn't have an optical drive so installing from those isn't an option. I'm assuming this will be fixed in the next version?

Re: Boot partition is too small version 1310
I had similar problems. I downloaded livecd image and ran it up as a virtual machine under vmware. This image gives you the option to write an embedded image to a USB stick with the correct partition sizes. Once you have the correct image on the USB stick, boot up nas4free and then do a config restore to bring everything back up to date. I belive the livecd can also boot up in its own right if you write it to a cd and boot your pc from that.

Re: Boot partition is too small version 1310
Here u are my solution to upgrade:
0. webui: backup config and save it
1. Upload the new rc.firmware and change the old to the new one (winscp, ...)
2. ssh to n4f
3. cd /etc
4. ./rc.firmware enable
5. upload the img.xz file to /var/tmp/ftmp/firmware.img.xz
6. ./rc.firmware upgrade /var/tmp/ftmp/firmware.img.xz
if no reboot check webui log
after reboot change smb to smb3 if u got smb and win8.x clients
reboot the clients

I used OSX Yosemite to create the new USB Stick:Boot partition is too small. You need reinstall from LiveCD or LiveUSB, or resize boot partition of da0s1a
1 backup old config from 9.2 to a file
2 create new USB 9.3 from scratch in a new USB stick
3 Boot from new USB
4 restore old config and ZFS pools
