NAS4Free will not see any SATA drives

Post by smithbyrne »

Hi,

I have a fresh install of NAS4Free that won't see my 2TB SATA drive.

Drive is detected fine in machine's BIOS (Dell Dimension 5150)
Reset BIOS to factory defaults also.

I can boot to NAS4Free just fine from the USB stick.

It gives me the IP address of 192.168.1.250 to log on to the GUI, which I can do just fine.

But when I scan for disks it will not find my HDD

The drive is a brand new 3.5" Seagate 2TB

I originally had this problem using FreeNas after I had upgraded from a build I was using from a number of years ago. The guys there told me that I did not have enough RAM (4GB) and that this behavior was normal when not using the recommended amount of RAM and they told me to try NAS4Free.

Now I have installed NAS4Free and I am faced with what looks like the exact same problem.

See screenshot.

All help appreciated

Thanks

thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I just did that,

to test it I plugged in an external USB 2.5" drive and it found it just fine

it must be something to do with NAS4Free not seeing my SATA controller? do you think ?

but it's unlikely that I'd have this same problem with two completely different PC's with FreeNas and NAS4Free, the first of which was working flawlessly for years

post more info about your SATA controller to search if was supported, and revise BIOS, sometimes on certains boards, SATA controllers can be disabled or emulated like IDE controllers, and this is not good for BSD, your SATA controller must be configured in BIOS as AHCI, and must be enabled.

Post a photo of how is configured in BIOS your DISk please.
12.1.0.4 - Ingva (revision 7743) on SUPERMICRO X8SIL-F 8GB of ECC RAM, 11x3TB disk in 1 vdev = Vpool = 32TB Raw size , so 29TB usable size (I Have other NAS as Backup)
