So i had my FreeNAS 7? running for a long while now (few years) with three 3tb's raid0 and two 1.5tb's raid1. For some reason, after i came back from my trip (3 days), when i turn it on, its like the mobo wont start up? like the video card is runnin at max and wont go down (does that make sense...? lol). its an older mobo so no diag code either =/
Specs is as follows
AMD 4350e
Asus Crosshair
4GB (4x1gb) corsair dominator
corsair cx430 psu
3 Seagate 3TB hd's
2 Seagate 1.5TB hd's
3 120mm fans
Corsair H50 AIO cooling
i can hear the pump come up and the water moving so its not like it wasnt being cooled and pump died or something... any ideas?
i have a hp z820 sitting around. maybe use this chance to upgrade? but i have a bunch of stuff on those drives. how would i go about on this "upgrade" ? i can keep the drives in the same order. i dont remember the names or config. i believe they are all software config thru freenas though.
can i just boot a new version onto a new usb, hook it up to the z820, plug in the drive and it loads it up or not that easy? XD
i believe the drives were set up in freenas by software raid...

Re: How to upgrade? Recover?
Start by just hoohking all your disks and boot USB up to a new system and seeing if it boots. FreeBSD is NOT tied to the hardware.

That sounds like your motherboard is dead. You will likely want to check each piece of hardware individually on another computer to see which is indeed dead. You can try swapping power supplies too, and rule that out of the way.

Re: How to upgrade? Recover?
so a few days ago, i randomly had to idea to maybe see if its memory failure.. pulled a stick out, and it booted but it got stuck... pulled the other from the same color slot out, and i can go into bios :< so if i were able to get all the info, is it possible i can upgrade to nas4free to latest version without losing data?
