OnLine / OnBatt Notification Anomaly

Post by cpcnw »

Hi All,

Since setting up my APC UPS with N4F things have been going pretty well.

However, from time to time I get batches of notification emails stating that the UPS has gone on batt, then another stating that its back onlne.

These emails have exactly the same timestamp [well, the hours / minutes are the same] :?:

No one in the office has ever reported any lights flickering or any other power issues. Sometimes, the Windows Server using WinNUT actually shuts down.

Where would I start trying to diagnose this issue?

TIA!

Is the win server connected to the same ups?
Because from what I understand the ups is to blame here... Perhaps some kind of self test, maybe? (It would explain why it is happening at the same time each day, but honestly not really sure if your UPS has something like that)
As I understand it, it is either bad ups, or a wrong setting in the ups...

A few months ago I was getting these almost daily.

Called the power company, they had a crew check and determine we had some issues with the connection at the street.

I still get the emails but only about 2 to 3 times a month.

I have the same issue, I'm using an old APC UPS connected to NAS using a serial cable.

I observed this situation closely and I discovered that the problem happens when the UPS automatically starts a self test. It's quite strange that NUT is not able to filter this condition, eventually using a little delay (a few seconds) before triggering the ON BATTERY condition. This could be an idea to submit to NUT developers: to add a parameter to allow some kind of temporal filtering of ONBATTERY condition.

At the end I decided to disable the email messaging related to the UPS service...
