Hi, I just built my first NAS4FREE Server.
Even the isn't anyone using the server, I can hear the disk working every 10 to 20 seconds.
I have no clue why.
Im using the following hardware:
Toshiba TransMemory mini Suruga 8GB schwarz
be quiet! System Power S7 300 Watt bulk
Kingston 4GB DDR3L SO-DIMM 1600MHz, PC3-12800
Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced schwarz
ASRock Q1900-ITX
2 X Seagate ST3000VN000 NAS HDD 3TB
And in the GUI I can see the follwing processes:
last pid: 2767; load averages: 0.09, 0.02, 0.01 up 0+00:40:30 11:59:18
20 processes: 1 running, 19 sleeping

Hi crowi,
you gave me a challenge. I just googled what you my mean with SMART.
After 10 minutes I reached this answer:
SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.
SMART support is: Disabled
I turned SMART on, waited 5 minutes and got this, please note that I have two disks as a raid 1, this are the SMART values of disk ada0:

Solved: Hard disk is working every few seconds
I haven't found the problem, but I solved it.
Here my history in a short form:
- disks are working every few seconds
- disabled fuppes, still the same
- disabled samba, still the same
- enabled spindown of disk: disks were spinning up and down every few seconds
- disable spindown, reduced time for standby to 5 minutes, added an Electricity Usage Monitor, so I could see if the disk go to standby
- disabled fuppes, samba and webserver
- after 5 Minutes: Standby (Yuppi)
==> at this point I thought the webserver including ownclound must be the problem
- enabled webserver, disks woke up, wait 5 Minutes and again Standby!!!
- enabled samba, used samba, disks woke up, wait 5 Minutes and again Standby!!
Now fuppes remained. I already had enabled and disabled fuppes for more than 5 times without any effect. So I decided not to do the same a sixth time.
- Moved the fuppes.db from disk to usb-stick
- enabled fuppes, re-createded database, disks woke up, wait 5 Minutes and again Standby!!!
===> Problem solved!!!
- modifed standby to 30 Minutes
