Hello,
I have got NAS4free 9.3 running with hardwired GB LAN runnning. Fine.
Now I found the new Tab "WLAN" beside "Network-Interface Management" and added an USB WLAN Stick with Ralink chip to the Server.
Below the WLAN tab i created a new virtual device wlan0 using run0. Wlan0 also shows up as OPT1 in the Network-Interface Management TAB.
In doing so i found that wlan0 can be used in Access Point Mode.
And thats what i like to do: Extend my existing WLAN by this additional AP at my NAS4free server.
After setting ssid, ... for wlan0 and reboot it is on air. But i am missing some things:
- where can i set the APs ip Address?
- how can it be linked to the existing LAN/ WLAN (Fritz Box)?
- how can i get a DNS for the new AP or link it to the existing Networks DNS?
Does anybody has experience? Maybe i need something like a Bridge or NAT?
There is also a Bridge tab, but my first attempt resulted in the WegGUI being no more accessible.

Setting is depend on your need.bewoco wrote:After setting ssid, ... for wlan0 and reboot it is on air. But i am missing some things:

If you don't want split LAN and WLAN, you need bridge in any device on WLAN.
Using bridge on NAS4Free is simple of course.
1.Create WLAN
2.Create Bridge with LAN device + wlan0
3.Select bridge0 as LAN from Management tab
4.Reboot
After rebooting, you should connect via wired LAN at least.
Note: If you accidentally reboot before all configured, you may need reset from console menu
"1) Configure Network Interfaces" and "2) Configure Network IP Address".
If you want split, you need router for LAN and WLAN and DHCP server(optional).
In this case, you can configure AP's IP via OPT1.

Re: WLAN Access Point
Ok. I want to join LAN and WLAN (AP) at the NAS.
Daoyama, as you wrote
1) I created wlan0, 2) created the Bridge, 3) but the drop down list for LAN in the Management tab shows no bridge0.
Whats wrong?

4.Select bridge0 as LAN from console menu #1 (Dont use OPTX)
5.Configure IP on bridge0 from console menu #2
6.Reboot
Probably, you need name: if_run_load value:YES in System|Advanced|loader.conf.
(bridge will be created before USB device driver is ready)
It has been fixed at 10.1.0.2.1455. I tested above process on 10.1.0.2.1474 (arm version).

Re: WLAN Access Point
Hi , daoyama
May be I do anything wromg, but I can not make bridge over webgui long time. I tried on 9.0 based, on 9.1 based, on 9.2 based - version : not success.
System cannot define IP (console menu 2 ) it wrote empty instead IP
But! When I define bridge over postinit script ( for example vnet enabled jail on 10.1 and 9.3 based ) - bridge work normal.

Re: WLAN Access Point
Hello,
after installing a head at my NAS and following daoyama's procedure the AccessPoint, Bridge and WebGUI are running!
(Jails have also been switsched from LAN to Bridge.) Thanks.
But now I have a further question: How can I enable Wake On LAN again?
The Bridge does not show a respective menu entry like LAN with bge0 before.

I didn't use WOL.bewoco wrote:But now I have a further question: How can I enable Wake On LAN again?

If you run "ifconfig bge0 wol" from shell (console menu#6 or ssh or Advanced|Execute command)
Does it work?

Re: WLAN Access Point
Hi,
sorry, but WOL works, without any changes??!!
I wondered and found in the config.xml:
<interfaces>
<lan>
<enable/>
<if>bridge0</if>
<ipaddr>192.168.2.250</ipaddr>
<subnet>24</subnet>
<ipv6addr>auto</ipv6addr>
<ipv6subnet>64</ipv6subnet>
<media>autoselect</media>
<mediaopt>half-duplex</mediaopt>
<gateway>192.168.2.1</gateway>
<mtu/>
<extraoptions/>
<wakeon>WOL_MAGIC</wakeon>
</lan>
Don't know where it got the info, what I want, from, but it is there. Perhaps as copy from the previous LAN configuration? The GUI is missing such an Option. bewoco
