Can you explain what you need those tools for anyway?

  • advanced stress tests (before using in a server environment)
get seagate self-service test codes (in case of failures) with detailed infos for warranty reasons
    update firmware

badblocks is a better stress test.

And for the last two you should not run those when you are serving files from a nas. So booting from a freedos disk with seatools achieves that goal. Also do not rely on seatools to tell you if a disk is fine. I have seen several cases where the tools said the drive is fine when in fact it wasn't and the smart values confirmed that.
