Looking for "upgrade" path from FN 0.7.2.5234

For "upgrading" from FreeNAS/NAS4Free Legacy to XigmaNAS and upgrading XigmaNAS to newer builds.

Looking for "upgrade" path from FN 0.7.2.5234

Post by jjrausch »

From what I can read, there is no way to do any kind of UPGRADE from FreeNAS 0.7.2-5234 to anything. ([upgrading versions] "before 0.7.2.5246 is never supported in NAS4Free. Also, restoring FreeNAS config is never supported.").

With that in mind, I am going to create a new build on a new system platform using the same RAID HDDs. Here are the HW details.

Current sys is AMD 64-bit with FN7 installed (Full install, Boot, Data + Swap using UFS) on 80 Gb HDD with pair of mirrored 1 Tb HDDs for additional data storage. (all 3 HDDs are SATA).

New system is a Intel 64-bit with 80 Gb SATA.

What I'd like to do is to bring the new sys up with the latest stable NAS4Free version installed as embedded on USB and move the pair of Mirrored HDDs to it with data intact. Then I would copy the DATA portion of the old 80 Gb HDD to the new system over my LAN.

So...
1. What build of NAS4Free should I go to? (I will assume the release notes/readme/doc will cover HW reqirements and formatting of the USB drv)
2. If the User Manual/readme does not cover it, what steps do I need to take to get the new system to recognize my RAID disks?

well basically just set up everything from scratch.
set up a new embedded install usb.
mount the mirror and share it.

Re: Q1... Version 10.what ? or 9.something? Looking for a stable (relatively bug-free) level to go to. Anything is an upgrade from 0.7.2 so I ain't gonna be picky about how current it is, just that it's solid.

Re: Q2... Once I have the NAS working with the 80 Gb HDD, just shutdown, install the mirrored-pair and boot up? Do I need to do anything for the new build to "recognize" them? (like importing them from the Disk Management menu, or something?)

9.3 is the current stable.

yes you need to clear the config and import software raid disks in disk managment.
then mount the raid like in the old Freenas
