5400 vs 7200RPM

Post by chris.shelton »

Hi,

I was just wondering if there is a great benefit of going with a WD Red Pro/Black drive which offers speeds of 7200rpm?

The drives are almost double the price but don't know if the extra cost is worth it?

I'll be having 6 drives set up in a RAIDZ2 (zfs) array.

Thanks

its not. they produce more heat and 6 5400rpm drives in raidz2 can deliver more than gigabit lan can handle.
Nas4Free 11.1.0.4.4517. Supermicro X10SLL-F, 16gb ECC, i3 4130, IBM M1015 with IT firmware. 4x 3tb WD Red, 4x 2TB Samsung F4, both GEOM AES 256 encrypted.

Thought so, thanks for clarifying.
