Sounds like an idea. I'm not experienced too much with that. May be you can suggest some how-to-guide or any other kind of manual which explains how can I use generic kernel in nas4free, please?

If generic kernel will work - I try patch Intel network chip driver
For fast test generic kernel you can make mfsbsd image and run your motherboard few hours as mfsbsd. You need just boot and check network with pings and check ifconfig . If watchdog timeout not present - so problem is into NAS4Free kernel.
You can download mfsbsd image from here http://mfsbsd.vx.sk/files/images/10/amd64/

Just make new flash with mfsbsd, some as NAS4Free flash

I disagree with that.

There are a lot of dlna-only hardware-players outside.

It's better to fix fuppes. I tested minidlna, and in my opinion, it's not really an alternative to fuppes.
I didn't use transcoding in fuppes, because modern dlna-players are able to play most music encodings (like ogg).

I also need Fuppes or DLNA. I have a internet radio (Revo SuperConnect) in my Kitchen that needs fuppes/minidlna or any other dlna server to stream music. Please repair.

with kodi you can do everything that any dlna implementation can do and so much more.
no more having to transcode no more worrying about compatibility.
an amazon fire tv stick is really cheap and installing kodi on it is very simple.

For proprietary systems dlna is still very useful and sometimes even the only way to play music or movies through the network : e.g PS3, PS4,...

Hi zoon01 and all developers,

after long reluctance I just upgraded the first of three N4F boxes from 9.2.x.x to 10.1.0.2.1731.
I installed it from scratch on a new USB device and imported the old config, it worked like a charm.

I haven't seen it mentioned in the upgrade notes, but after I upgraded from an allowable v9 version (using the embedded image), Disks|ZFS|Pools|Information showed that a feature 'embedded_data' was not active on my ZFS pool after re-synchronising as requested.

It seemed like a useful feature for my dataset so I upgraded from the command line (zfs upgrade <dataPool>) and it worked fine - as far as I know....

embedded_data is a new feature of zfs. goto disk/zfs/pools/tools/upgrade to upgrade to use embedded_data feature.

I tried to upgrade from NAS4Free 9.3.0.2.1681 to NAS4Free 10.1.0.2.1731 performing the following steps:
1. saved config on 9.3.0.2.1681 system in NON-encrypted xml file
2. fresh install for 10.1.0.2.1731 on USB key
3. restored saved config in WebGUI - after reboot it was not possible to login with the admin user - always got an error msg ->

4. tried to reset the WebGUI password on the system console - login with the standard password nas4free also not possible

It's not possible to login with the admin user from a saved config after reboot!

Any ideas?

config 2.0 used by 10.x is not same as 1.8 used by 9.3.
You cannot use plain validation method in 9.2 and early 9.3.
(always use SHA-512 crypt password)

No. You can use XML config. But you cannot use php/inc files in 9.2 and early 9.3.
Your extension must support 10.x files. (not to replace)
I have tested Thebrig only. I don't know other extensions.

No.
Reset means it reset to default crypt password, so you must use 10.x inc/php anyway.

As a follow-up using this for since release, I'm really quite happy how it just works with no drama or errors or hangups. And the speed is awesome. Huge improvement over that L. Ron Hubbard guy's FreeNAS with no UFS distro. Thanks for your hard work. It's a rock.

... that solve the problem if you only have one or two TV's. But if you have more and also like to view by tablet or smartphone (i.e. in the garden via WLAN) than it is'nt a way to escape... is'nt it?!
... and why i.e. I have a SmartTV and some Denon's they have the Smart functionality if I can't use that? I belive a good running MediaServer is the better choise for the most users with family ...

I can view all my video from my phone. I simply browse to the share using ES File Explorer a fantastic free file browser app that works for local and network shares

... jepp, I use "Total Commander" with all plugins and it work's also this way. But I won't realy install it for my Daugther and Wife.. they can't handle that ...

...there is'nt much other MediaServer out there (Fuppes is death, MiniDNLA don't like to work under 10x, ...) so PLEX was also my choise as server but I can't get it run yet (see other topic in DE-Sec). Clientside is'nt a problem. SmartTV's got her own, Denon's also. Kodi is a good choise for tablets and i.e. Raspberry behind a normal TV. Phones, particularly weak ones run better with VLC or small coded Player ... My humble opinion

... maybe it will a time comes up that I have to patch my FritzBox to mount the folders from N4F ^^

Just to update status: I set this variable in loader.conf and still have same trouble. This approach does not work for me.
