Post by raulfg3 »

1- You need "special" DHCP, so you see: viewtopic.php?f=71&t=92

2- configure TFTP service in nas4free:

3- Create the apropiate files on PXE Directory:

I Atach the indispensable files but you can modify it all you want.

Install of DHCP on FreeNAS.rar
memdisk & the other files are easy to find in google.

Only for the full install version I take it? I'd really like DHCP server support built into freeNAS by default.

I just was thinking about PXE boot and realized that no DHCP server is included in nas4free.
I would also like one to be included in the embedded version please. =)

This was my first attempt to have a PXE enviroment.

But Actually I buy a DD-WRT compatible router and configure it to DHCP and PXE all my LAN, so no need to install DHCP in my NAS, only need to create folder and files like described in this post and point it to boot PXE from my DD-WRT router.

In my understanding it should be possible to have a dhcp server in dhcp proxy mode on a nas and additionaly a router which has DHCP enabled and provides the dhcp leases.
And I want to try and study such a setup where you have 2 dhcp server, because if the nas would stop working you still get the leases from the router and you do not have to change anything on the routers dhcp server. (which is not always possible)

But as far as I understand it I can also install packages on my embedded system, but all changes go away after reboot right?

yes, you can made persisten changes using full install (or try some hacks described on several post in the forum), but really, Full is the easy way.
