10.1.0.2.1731 won't install Embedded on USB

Post by Wanbli »

Sorry if this is posted somewhere, but I searched this forum & Google before posting. I backed up my config file, then I tried to upgrade my 9.xx Embedded version to the new 10.1.0.2.1731, but the system continuously said the Firmware file was corrupt. I checked the Hash Code and it matched, but it still wouldn't upgrade because the file was corrupt, even though it isn't!. So I downloaded the live CD iso file, checked the hash to verify it was not corrupt and it also matched. I burned the ISO to a DVD-RW and tried to upgrade from there, it said the "Firmware File " is corrupt., so I tried to install a new Embedded system, but received the same File corrupted error. So, I am screwed now, as it reformatted my USB and the old system is gone. Apparently you nee 2gb of RAM to run it off the live CD & I only have 1gb. :x

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

did you see the info on the download site

Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below 9.3.0.2.1310 by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config to a safe place and backup all files from second
partition if you use boot disk as data disk.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THAN THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config.
Sorry for inconvenience.
Nas4Free 11.1.0.4.4517. Supermicro X10SLL-F, 16gb ECC, i3 4130, IBM M1015 with IT firmware. 4x 3tb WD Red, 4x 2TB Samsung F4, both GEOM AES 256 encrypted.

Update:
I have tried everything to get this system back up and running to no avail. How is it possible that EVERY download from SourceForge is corrupt? There must be something else going on I've tried 3 different ISO/IMG's on 2 different PC's and they ALL say the same thing "Firmware File is Corrupt". How is this possible?

Somebody Please Help! I have 4TB od files that I now cannot access. FREAKING OUT!

Yes, that's why I tried a "NEW" install which reformatted my USB, so now I have nothing, screwed!

I've used 2 Different PC's with 2 Different DVD drives, with 3 different versions of the download. I've checked every download's Hash Code to be sure they were good. The only thing I can think of is it must be something with Windows 10. I'm going to boot into an Ubuntu Live CD & see if I can create the CD in there, maybe that will work?

I don't have another USB drive, but I do have a 64gb SD Card I can put into a USB adapter. Would that work?

Ok, so I downloaded the Live USB file, checked the Hash & used Win32 Disk Imager to image the USB Drive. Imager indicated the Image was successful, I put the USB into the PC and it wouldn't boot, just a flashing cursur. Installing Ubuntu now so I can look at the USB to see if there are files in the appropriate partitions.
Not sure where to go from here....

It did eventually boot to the Live USB, but will NOT install Embedded USB (says Firmware File Corrupted) AND won't accept the Restored Configuration. A lot of the updated inputs are different and I'm still unable to see my drives on the network. I can see them in the Web Gui, but not on the network. HELP, PLEASE!

I should have left well enough alone, the system ran fine before I tried to update it! :-(

I have given up on this program & am moving to NANONAS, even though it's not free, hopefully it will actually work!

Thanks for your help.

Yes, I have tried every imaginable choice. There is nothing wrong with my memory, NASLite-2 installed to the same USB stick just fine, except I have to reformat my drives! That was a waste of $30! I can't reformat nearly 3TB of my files, I can't access the drives to move things around and open up a drive to format, I'm basically screwed. >:-(

Well, after 2 days of messing with this, the Live USB decided it work (although I have no idea why?). I now have my NAS4Free at the latest release. I did end up wasting $30 on NASLite-2, which I couldn't use because it wanted me to reformat my 4TB of HDD, which I wouldn't do! I will NEVER update this NAS again unless I'm re-configuring all new drives.
Thanks to all who helped me! :-)
