NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.1803 released (FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P1)
The nas4free team is pleased to announce the release of 10.2.0.2.1803
http://sourceforge.net/projects/nas4fre ... .0.2.1803/
Everyone can upgrade from NAS4Free version 9.3.0.2.1310 or Higher.
README & CHANGELOG
NAS4Free Upgrade from below 9.3.0.2.1310 is NOT possible!!!
=====================================================
Upgrading NAS4Free "Embedded" or "Full" from any version below 9.3.0.2.1310 by webgui or from
LiveCD/USB is problematic, due a new size of boot partition & partition layout.
Please download and save your NAS4Free config to a safe place and backup all files from second
partition if you use boot disk as data disk.
INSTALL FROM SCRATCH IS THE ONLY WAY!
After installation you can restore your config.
Sorry for inconvenience.
** ! Tools to write extracted embedded file are not supported ! **
You must use the liveusb/CD for it's first installation!!!.
Install from scratch notes
======================
** Embedded.img.xz is only for upgrades by WEBGUI, do not extract and write to any media! **
Download NAS4Free livecd or liveusb and boot from it.
The compressed LiveUSB.img.gz needs to be extracted before you can write it to usb media,
you can use it with Win32DiskImager or any other tool.
Press 9 for the install menu and perform an embedded installation.
Upgrade note:
============
You must associate CARP with physical interface explicitly after upgrading to 10.X.
You may need modifying your NFS and AFP share setting.
You may need modifying your ftp setting, no longer SSL is supported (only TLS).
Send Buffer Size/Receive Buffer Size in CIFS/SMB is changed to 128480 since 9.3.0.2.1375.
/var and /var/tmp size has changed.
After the upgrade please do make a new backup of your config System|Backup/Restore.
Extended GUI note!
Don't use current Extended GUI on 10.2.0.2 series yet, disable it first before upgrade.
ZFS User note!
After upgrading, you must re-sync ZFS configuration from Disks|ZFS|Configuration|Synchronize.
Requirements
============
Embedded: 2GB CF/USB/SSD (NAS4free "Embedded" is Recommended Install)
Full: 4GB HDD/SSD (For developers and some advanced users, Not Recommended!)
Swap less: physical memory 2GB or higher needed.
With swap: physical memory 512MB + swap 512MB (swap 1024MB recommended).
*Note: LiveCD is not supported on swap mode except installation and upgrading.
BUILD 10.2.0.2.1803
=================
Changes:
- Upgrade to FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P1.
- Add Mellanox ConnectX-2 EN driver module. (x64 only)
- Upgrade bash 4.3 to patch 42.
- Upgrade lighttpd to 1.4.36.
Fixes:
- AFP share is not advised.
Note:
- iperf2 has been replaced for iperf3 because of inconsistent results for UDP above 2Gbps.
- iperf3 is not backwards compatible with iperf2.x.
Permanent restrictions:
- It is not possible to format a SoftRAID disk with MSDOS FAT16/32.
- It is not possible to encrypt a disk partition, only complete disks are supported.
- AFP shares with TimeMachine support are limited to max. 4 shares.
Regards,
The NAS4Free Team

Re: NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.1803 released (FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P1)
Under Services|CIFS/SMB|Settings:
'Enable use sendfile' doesn't seem to hold it's setting. I noticed a 20 MB/s drop in transfer speed and tried to enable it, but it just won't do it. This is using the SMB3 protocol.
I have Win 7 connecting, and it kicks it back to SMB2. Need to alter some options to optimize SMB2 perhaps. Pretty sure sendfile worked at the first 10.2 revision.

Re: NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.1803 released (FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P1)
Then why this option is existing in GUI? Why it still persist in official documentation?

My eyes...I only saw the "3" and didn't notice the "2/".
OK - but then please change GUI (and documentation) accordingly, so there is a comment that this oprion can be enabled only for SMB1.

Re: NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.1803 released (FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P1)
OK, so sendfile is being removed by dev's. That's fine. No problem.
The speed issue though is odd. When using SMB3 with a Win7 client, it steps down to SMB2 connectivity, as it should, but it transfers at 80 MB/s over cat 6 gig-e. When setting the server to SMB2 with a Win7 client, it stays at SMB2 connectivity obviously, and the transfer rate increases to 100 MB/s over cat 6 gig-e.
This is some of the weirdness I experienced with FreeNAS. The transfer rate with samba/CIFS was crap. Migrated to 9x here and it jumped 20 Mb/s. So anyway, to be continued. It's just complicated tweaking/diaging this when it's an embedded install and the config actual isn't where it's supposed to be.

Thank you. Good to know.daoyama wrote: Some applications are broken on FreeBSD 10.2. Python 2.7 used by samba is one of them.

Great, thanks! Small but good improvement for noobs like me.daoyama wrote:Sendfile option will be removed.noclaf wrote:Then why this option is existing in GUI? Why it still persist in official documentation?
You cannot use it with SMB2 or SMB3.

Re: NAS4Free 10.2.0.2.1803 released (FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-P1)
I was having similar problem. Server A is running 10.1.0.2 (1731), while Server B is running 10.2.0.2 (1814). I tried running rsync on Server B to copy files from Server A, and I've got "no matching host key type found" error. I have also tried the workaround to install and restart sshd. Same error.
Now I have updated Server A to 10.2.0.2 (1814) as well, and no more issue.
