Q: How do I fix the
“GEOM: adn: corrupt or invalid GPT detected” and
“GEOM: adn: GPT rejected – may not be recoverable” errors that appear together in the logs or at boot time?
A: These errors are expected in SoftRAID5 arrays and cannot be fixed, they are normal. You should only try to correct these errors if they occur on a non-RAID (standalone) drive.
To fix this you must repair the GPT partition entries on your drive. This can be difficult to do, especially if you are trying to save your data.
If your data does not need to be preserved then it is probably best to wipe the drive and set it up again. Please read How can I easily, quickly and completely wipe / prepare a disk for use?
Note: Do not confuse the error above with this one:
“GEOM: adn: the secondary GPT table is corrupt or invalid”
This error does not need to be and cannot be corrected in SoftRAID arrays. Please read the reference below for complete details on these errors.
